Now, I may push some buttons here – and I truly don’t mean to trigger you, but let’s be honest…
One of the HUGEST contributing factors to the success of home-based, mom-supported direct sales businesses (you know the Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Avon, Arbonne, Lia Sophia direct sales business models) is the fact that the “business” of those businesses is pretty much all set up, financed, paid for, engineered, marketed, managed, supported and run solely by the mother ship.
In other words, the reason they work so well for so many moms is because the folks who decide to run those types of independent direct sales businesses are really just warm, wonderful, engaging and networked sales people for the brand they decide to support.
And it works!
There is no faster way to make money than to invest in and launch a direct sales business with a product you love. Everything’s done for you… all you need to do is start networking and marketing their products, and pretty soon – you’ll begin to see results in your wallet!
I’ve created a pet name for direct sales businesses “Jhobbies”. Why? Because one can align with this type of business like a JOB – or a HOBBY depending on what she puts into it.) But – the facade is that it is a “business”. And it is… to the extent you are working it and making money. But the fact remains, whether you choose to sell products, email your list, book parties, or not – that business will still survive without you. You will continue to reap the rewards of their marketing, their engineering, their sales materials, their infrastructure, their training, their support, their collateral materials… Their business. Now, don’t get me wrong. They WANT you to continue your business. They need you to do so to support their success.
That said – I feel it is a super reliable and terrific option for the at home mom who may be testing the ‘working for myself waters” and wish to generate some instant income right out of the box… Compare this option to the solo-preneur, launch-your-own-thing model… So, when you launch your own business whether it’s based on products or services, IT IS ALL ON YOU! If you don’t want to (or can’t) afford the time, investment, tools, resources and equipment you need to set up your own business, you really should sit down with yourself and have a heart to heart talk about the dreaded and oft avoided reality:
Do I want a business or a jhobby?
[Tweet “So what kind of #business do you want? Ask yourself these questions.”]
If you want to avoid the business end of the business, I say go for the jhobby – there is no faster (or less risky) way to generate easy income than to make a minimal investment with a large branded, fully-equipped business operation and sell their stuff. Of course, choose a company and product you love and USE with ease and happiness – or you’ll probably lose that dreamy, steamy, I’m-gonna-make-a-ton-o-cash-with-this-stuff-feeling PDQ!
