Productivity Tip – Buy & Cook In Bulk

Buying and cooking food account for two of the most common areas for time use by most women.  Most people cook meals only when they’re hungry, and buy replacement items in small amounts only when they need them.

The most efficient way I’ve found to minimize time spent is by cooking is to prepare one or two larger meals per week. This plans for leftovers to be used for additional meals later in the week. If I don’t get to serving the food again in a few days, I can always label it an put it in the freezer to be served another time.

Also, consider buying in bulk when possible.  BUT – Only buy items in bulk that you use regularly. For me, that might include buying the largest sized tuna can, or a gallon of real maple syrup, or certain cereals and coffees.  Remember that food goes bad and gets out of date – so be cautious not to justify buying too much! It’s easy to be enticed by the lower cost per pound of bulk items – but will you really use 1 gallon of shampoo or 1 pound of paprika to justify it’s added cost for the larger unit? Don’t be penny-wise and pound foolish. If you KNOW that your family uses an item regularly, it makes sense, but if not – don’t buy the bulk item… it’s likely to sit and go bad.
