The ruminating emails warn of fees and imminent charges from telemarketers and urge you to call a number from your cell phone to block incoming calls. Did you know that this email has been in circulation for SIX YEARS? – Since 2005! (according to snopes.com)
You may have recently received an email telling you that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls as a result of a new cell phone number database; however, that is not the case.
- Federal Communications Commission regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers.
- Since automated dialers are standard in the telemarketing industry, most telemarketers are barred from calling consumers on their cell phones without their consent.
- In addition, the national associations representing telemarketers have stated that their clients do not intend to start calling consumers’ cell phones.
- There is only ONE DNC Registry. There is no separate registry for cell phones.
Of course, if you’d like to place your home, cell or office phone on the Do Not Call list for Telemarketers you can always do so to save you time and interruptions. The DNC Registry accepts registrations from both cell phones and land lines. You must call from the phone number that you want to register. If you register online, you must respond to a confirmation e-mail.To find out how go here.
