Today’s 5 Minute Fix: Choose A Starting Place & Make it “Clutter-Free”
Look around you and find the place where you feel the most pain with your clutter. Often, this area is what I call the landing pad, or the area just inside the most-used entrance to your home. If this area is not set up for success, you will invariably get a backlog of items located here. Wherever you feel most frustration is where you should start. The area could be a counter, your kitchen table, or any area in any room in your home.
Take some time today to clear this area. To avoid accumulating items here in the future, figure out what types of items “land there”. Often items land in a place because they do not have any home. Whatever is found there during your de-clutter process, should be given a permanent address. You can now declare it to be a no-clutter zone from here on out. Wherever you start, do NOT allow anything to be placed there that doesn’t belong. Once you have that clutter-free zone, keep it that way! Each day, slowly expand your no-clutter zone until it expands through your most important spaces!
