I’ve recently finished the book
The Power of Flow
by Charlene Belitz and Meg Lundstrum.
In it, Belitz and Lundstrum define flow as: the natural, effortless unfolding of our life in a way that moves us toward wholeness and harmony. A flow state is a constant ‘unfolding’ because it furthers our potentiality and can bring us into a sense of familiarity, rightness and fullness.
Within this definition, we begin to see reality differently. Attributes of a person’s sense of time and space show up as causal. In this definition, your reactions become your reality… Your responses create your future state.
Clear your mind and get a picture of your last emotional “reaction” to something that happened. Did you use words like: “this happened to me, about me or against me?” Have you considered the possibility that in reality -things just HAPPEN? Do you realize that you have a choice to respond in any way you’d like? The only thing you can control is your reaction. Reality happens.
When you begin to reflect on your reactions and observe your typical “automatic responses”, you might begin to see some patterns that need attention.
What kind of reaction loops do you find yourself experiencing?
Anger? Upset? Breakdown? Lack of communication within yourself or others? What do you catch yourself in the act of doing… where you feel powerless and out of control?
You can NOT control reality… but you can control your reaction to what happens in your life. This minor shift can begin to create the space for flow.
When something happens that triggers you – stop, breathe, wait, and resist your knee-jerk emotional reaction. Give yourself time to see and accept what is happening – and the CHOOSE what happens next.
