When I waitressed in college, I was always surprised at the number of new waitresses who would take several trips back and forth to the kitchen for each table. They spent more time running back and forth, and invariably would have to return to get another spoon, or a napkin, or another glass of water! I quickly learned how to consolidate my trips to and from the kitchen so I could save time and be more efficient.
I use this concept daily when doing errands more productively. Since I live remotely, a “quick” round trip to the store can take about 45 minutes. I always consider consolidating errands into one trip instead of driving back and forth several times from home to the store to home to the bank to home, etc. It just simply takes less time.
