This month, I’m exploring the field of Professional Organizers, to help answer your most common questions! Today, I’ll answer the following question:
“How long will it take to have a Professional Organizer help me?”
To start… that’s a tough question to answer.

Asking how much a PO costs is a bit like asking how much a car costs. What type of car? A luxury sedan? What features? Do you need power windows? Heated seats & sun-roof? Or my favorite follow up question to clients comes from the awesome Certified Professional Organizer Monica Ricci, Owner of Catalyst Organizing in Atlanta, who always counters with: How long does it take you to lose 15 pounds?
The answer is, it depends!
There are many factors to consider when you talk about how long organizing will take. POs spend a great deal of time learning how to work with different types of clients. Each PO could have anywhere from no experience, to several hundreds of hours of professional training, guidance, and practice under their belts to work with your particular needs. And, if you are a client with special needs considerations such as: physical limitations, mental health conditions, AD/HD, PTSD, OCD, TBI, anxiety, depression, hoarding tendencies and behaviors, compulsivity, Bipolar Disorder, or even unresolved grief, or if you have struggled with the organization your whole life, you should really seek out a professional who is trained in your particular area of focus before you begin any arrangement.
Now that the background is covered, the future posts will focus on how an organizer typically works on projects with clients. Although projects may differ, the processes used across organizing projects follow a common workflow.
