Every once in awhile, I surprise myself with clicking on an icon – and suddenly something happens that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I just experienced this with my downloads file on my mac. Until today, I didn’t know I could “arrange” downloads in various ways – including by date/time! If I’d known that for the past two years, I could have saved SOOO much time digging through that file to find the last thing I downloaded.
It’s hard to break or mess up your online tools. They’ve been designed fluidly to appeal to many different styles. If you want to do something or see information arranged in a certain way, don’t be afraid to look it up!
If your “system is organized all wrong”, you may be able to easily rearrange things to better suit your needs.
Sometimes spending a few minutes now to learn your systems better, and explore your capabilities, can save you countless hours in the future.

When I upgraded to Outlook 2010, I was annoyed, because the search function seemed less powerful. For example, if I entered “Cena” and “blog” it would bring up every email that contained EITHER term, instead of only those containing both.
Then one day, I happened to look up while doing a search, and saw a whole bunch of Search Tools – now I know I can search on To, Subject, Has Attachments, Category, date, and much more.
I think that’s one downfall of upgrading your software – it may be better, but we tend to use it the way we’ve always done, so we don’t reap the benefits of the new bells and whistles!
