You often hear about strengthening your core muscles from the world of physical fitness, but this metaphor is also essential to your business.
For you to gain more confidence in your business, it’s essential for your to do the inside work! This post will help you assess your CORE Business fundamentals, and offers a great video training and workbook too!
Whether you’re selling web design or cosmetics, the same is true: To feel more confident in business you have to clearly define what you do, who you do it for, what you have to offer, and how your products, services and offers meet the needs of your customers and clients. I refer to these critical areas as your CORE Business Fundamentala ™
Use this list to examine your own CORE Business Fundamentals™:
- C – Customers/Clients – When you are in business for yourself, and you’re branding ‘you’ – this inquiry into your clients and what makes them tick should go far beyond their demographics. Spending time to get a clear understanding of who you serve, what their deepest desires are, and what they struggle with most of all will give you a great place to begin. A great question to answer (that I learned from my coach) is to ask: What keeps your clients up at night? What would they do anything or pay anything to resolve right now…? This is the way to get to the heart of your ideal clients. By understanding their struggles, you can reach into their hearts and really profoundly communicate.
- O – Objectives – What are the objectives of your business on behalf of what your client wants? What is the payoff for your client? What will your clients accomplish? Think in terms of money, time, effort, and value. What do you deliver on for your clients that make you unique? Why should they hire you? What do you do for them?
- R – Results – At first glance, most business owners will answer this quickly: “I want to make a million dollars!” – or something like that. Results are all about YOU. What is the payoff you’ll receive with your business. Identifying your own results are critical in understanding your path to success as a business owner. If your result is “I want to use my expertise and create some cash” – that is a very different result than: “I want to have something to do while the kids are at school”. Both results are valid reasons to have a business, however the path you follow may be very different to achieve them.
- E – Expertise – You need to make the most out of YOU when you are in business for yourself. In this CORE area, you need to identify what is unique about your talents, skills, loves and abilities. This expertise is critical to understand about yourself so you can not only make the most profit out of what you do naturally well, but to save yourself time by hiring experts in areas that are your blind spots.
