Whatever Happened to Easy Street?
Think back to a day when everything ran smoothly for you – a day when you consistently found yourself in the right place at the right time doing the right thing.
Do you remember what it felt like to move smoothly between being relaxed and productive, no matter what else was going on in your life at the moment? That’s flow.
Flow – Defined
The state of flow is the opposite of being stuck or clotted. Clutter derives from the Middle English term ‘clot’ meaning to ‘cause to become blocked or obscured’. When things are ‘clotted’ – they are stuck, bogged down, and tend to store potential energy. (That is another way of saying that they contain too much latent energy… and since energy can neither be created nor destroyed, too much latent energy can create chaos.
Moving into flow requires heightened awareness, and is greatly aided by working in accordance to your own natural rhythms.
Flow begins with awareness and being present in the moment.
What does being present actually mean? Usually, we’re anything but aware; we typically ricochet from one experience to another like a ball bouncing off the bumpers in a pinball game. When we tune in to ‘now’ and connect to what’s happening in real-time, we realize that we’re presented with choices in every moment that we may have never before realized.
It’s impossible to make effective choices if you’re not conscious of your ability to do so. It’s like a sailor moving with the wind – if you do not sense the subtle changes and then make articulate adjustments, consistently, to tack in the direction you want to go, you risk being carried away, dead in the water, or you may even capsize.
How To Find Flow
Within the dimensions of time and space, there are signals that tell you when you’re in alignment. You just need to pay attention so that you can adjust when it’s time to change direction.
When you heighten your awareness of your natural time and space style preferences and understand the individual components over which you have control, you can more easily achieve and maintain flow.
