If your time style is Hyperfocus, you love zeroing in and concentrating on tasks. This Time Management Personality Type loves nothing more than languishing over a project or research without interruptions! Hyper-Focus types enjoy the experience of going deep into their work. But they run the risk of losing track of time and struggle to transition from one task to another.

Are You A Hyperfocus Personality Type?

Dominant Hyper-Focus Time Style Personality Types can learn to work most effectively with others when they better understand the strengths and weaknesses of their natural Impulsive TimeStyle Preference.

Your Time Management Personality Type

Have you ever been in the flow?

Flow is that effortless feeling when things just seem to work well. Those flow experiences are often thought to be random occurrences, but in our research and years working with others to enhance productivity and stay organized, we’ve found out some important information.

It seems that each of us has go-to behaviors regarding how we manage time and how we organize our living and working spaces. And, the Time & Space Style Inventory was designed by productivity professionals with decades of experience to help you gain insight and be more productive as a result. Here’s what we’ve learned about personality styles when it comes to managing time!

How Your Time Personality Creates Flow Experiences

When things flow smoothly, we often think it’s simple synchronicity. But, the more you know about yourself, the better you are able to manage tension when you become inundated, over-scheduled, and blocked with clutter. When your stress increases, it’s important to understand how to work with our natural style preferences, and let your dominant habits and behaviors work for you rather than stand in your way!

If you ignore tension and stress, you can get in your own way, impede your best intentions, and miss your goals. Knowing which techniques, behaviors, and products support your natural style preferences, and which do not, impacts the overall quality of your life.

Tricks That Support Your Hyper-Focus Time Management Personality Type

Understanding what techniques, behaviors, and products work for you, and what does not, impacts the overall quality of your life.

We all have natural behaviors regarding the use of time and how we organize time and space. Sometimes our time styles work well for us, and sometimes we get in our own way. But when lack distinction and awareness of our natural styles, we can get in our own way and impede our best intentions. Understanding what can work for us and what does not impacts the overall quality of our life.

Crystal-clear focus, expediently attacking one task with precision – that’s the superpower of a Hyperfocus™ Time Style preference.

Completely absorbed in a single task, losing all track of time, she gets so involved in her work that she may ignore reminders and cues to move on to the next priority. A Hyperfocus style type often says “Wow, I can’t believe the day’s over already!”. And instead of quitting at quitting time, Hyperfocus types will work through a problem until they find the right solution.

Giving so much specific energy and time to one task can have positive results. Because she commits to accuracy at the cost of the time it takes – she may resist scheduling and strict deadlines.

The Problems With Hyperfocus Style Preference

This single focus attention can cause other tasks, breaks, and appointments to be overlooked. Ironically, procrastination can creep in if a Hyper-Focus personality doesn’t feel there’s enough time to finish a task properly – therefore, she may put off even starting to work on something for fear she’ll be interrupted once it is begun.

Your style can frustrate coworkers or family members. You may be difficult to guage and partner with. And, you likely ignore the reminders of time passing or impending deadlines.

Additionally, you may find transitions hard. If you have to switch between activities when tasks are incomplete, you may struggle. You may find yourself losing track of time – in pursuit of completing just one more thing. And especially when you’re interested or absorbed. Preset priorities take a back seat to something that currently holds your attention.

Hyperfocus Style Flow Steps

What steps can a Hyperfocus style type take to get more flow?

Flow is defined as the “natural, effortless unfolding of life in a way that moves us toward wholeness and harmony” (from The Power of Flow, Belitz and Lundstrom). The gateway to flow begins with awareness, being present in the moment, and learning to manage your inner experience.

Flow Steps™ offer simple choices to help resolve tension and restore freedom over time and space.

Here are some basic Flow Steps that can help a Hyperfocus personalities enhance their time management:

  1. Use a backward planning and focus on small completions to get things done.
  2. Try a scheduling approach to determine necessary project phases, proper planning, and appropriate start dates.
  3. Segment times time into conscious chunks; estimate how many chunks will be required per task.
