12 Website Freebies To Build Your Email List
If you’re in business today, you need a website freebie, that is a free offer to entice people to engage with you by exchanging their email address. If you’ve struggled to figure out just how to create a free offer for your site, this post offers you a dozen easy ideas that many of you may already have on hand!
1. A Checklist Is A Simple Freebie
The first easy website freebie you offer could be as simple as a checklist. People love steps to follow. A checklist (or series of checklists) is one of the easiest things for most people to create. Using Word or any simple word processing software, you can create a simple checklist to guide your clients through one of their current challenges. The link below leads to an example of a freebie offer I created to help people with college-bound high school students. I created it when I was a guest on a podcast, and have used it for several different presentations. Click here to see if these Organizing Tips For Your College Bound Senior fits your needs.
2. Use Assessments As Freebies
An assessment is another great freebie. Quizzes offer a great way to surface initial gaps for your potential ideal clients. Well-designed assessments help people understand the difference between where they are now and where they want to be. As an opt in, they offer a great enticing way to help you position services or products as the solution to bridge their gap. Here are four assessments I’ve used successfully for years to help you better assess your Systems, Spaces, Self & Support. There are many tools to help you get these designed and hosted on your website. Some are free and some are fee-based, but they will definitely pique people’s interest and are simple transactions to gather emails from newbies.
3. Create a Freebie As An E-book
Share your expertise in the form of an e-book. You can get one of your teleseminars transcribed, clean it up and edit it into e-book format, or even take your top 10 blog posts and re-purpose them in your e-book. You could also consider a collaborative e-book, where several experts contribute to its production. This freebie comes with an ebook and audio recordings
4. Create a Freebie From Audio Recording(s)
If you love to talk, an .mp3 audio download could be the best option for you. And by hearing your voice, your subscribers will likely feel a stronger connection to you than they might from the written word alone. You can sign up for a free conference call line and record yourself teaching. Simply download the recording and upload it to your website for your leads to access. Here’s an example of an E-course for moms in business that I offer as a freebie.
5. Video Recording or Series Makes A Great Freebie
If you have a repository of recorded presentations or even if you’re just a natural on camera, you can easily use video to teach something. Video is a sure fire way to increase your “know, like, trust” factor. You’ll want your videos to look professional, but there are many options out there with flip cams and SmartPhones, user-friendly editing software, and YouTube for hosting so you do this at little cost. Just make sure you have good lighting and sound! And, in case you wondered if I had one, please opt into my Freebie Video Series for mompreneurs in start-up to early growth. It’s great information and comes with an ebook too. (Guess what? This freebie will even benefit entrepreneurs who aren’t moms so check it out today!)

6. A Report Makes An Easy Website Freebie
A Report is one of the most common opt-in offers. A report can help you share simple tips, highlight case studies or share statistics to help your prospects deepen their understanding or learn more about themselves.
7. Templates, Worksheets & Tools Are Attractive Freebies
People love tools and templates they can immediately use. When you simplify a process or untangle a problem by creating a tool or template, people will lineup for this offer – Here’s an example of a 90 Day Business Planner that I offer my ideal clients.
8. E-course As A Freebie
If you have a ton of content from existing blog posts or trainings, you can always rearrange the pieces and create a new package of “bite-sized chunks”. An E-Course is a popular way to increase your prospects’ engagement via in a “drip campaign” which ‘drips’ the content to your prospects over a period of time. Ideally, you’ll want your freebie to be somewhere between 1 and 5 touches. Things that tarry longer are less likely to be effective. Also, a drip campaign helps your subscribers to expect to receive regular emails from you. Here’s an example of an E-course for moms in business that I offer as a freebie.
9. Resource List Is a Powerful Freebie
Share your list of recommended resources to save them time in finding quality vendors and suppliers. One of the best ways to position yourself as an expert is to share your referrals from trusted sources. This also helps save them their most valuable resource which is their time. I include my entrepreneur resource list as an added value for my coaching programs. It contains more than 800 links to services and options that online entrepreneurs find invaluable!
10. Promote Products With A Special Offer
Although I recommend you offer this later down the line of engagement with leads and newbies, offering a promotion in the form of a discount or coupon may encourage them to make their first purchase. Here’s an example of a promotional offer!
11. Host A Contest To Generate Email Leads
Many blog owners offer drawings for valuable items. If you review products on your blog, you could have visitors enter to win a sample product – or perhaps even a complimentary session with you.
12. CD/DVD – The High End Freebie
When all else fails you can go to the extra effort to produce a ‘hard good’! Instead of inviting your prospects to opt in to download something, you can ask for their snail mail address and which is really valuable down the road… and in exchange give them a cd, dvd, or book. A hard good provides a higher ‘thump factor’ (the sound something makes when you drop it…) so there’s typically a higher perceived value to something they can hold in their hands.
