Increase Your Confidence With These 6 Steps
Many business owners find themselves in situations that require them to make decisions daily and often. These decisions can impact their business growth. If these decisions give an indication that something may not work out, a person’s confidence is affected. A lack of confidence can have a major impact on our businesses and our ability to move forward.

1. Stop Overthinking It and Learn from Lean Startup
Many business owners want their service, solution or product to be perfect. This is especially true of women as they feel that they cannot release something without having all the I’s dotted and the T’s crossed. The book Lean Startup focuses on releasing solutions and making iterations along the way because you may find that what you originally produced may need to be tweaked or modified anyway. The Lean Startup principles also recognize that money is not endless and small businesses need to be capital efficient in order to grow their business. 2. Make Wonder Woman or Any Other Super Hero Your Friend
That’s right, make a stand. Well, practice your superhero position anyway. So stand with your feet apart, your hands on your hips, chest out, and your head held high. Whether you are heading into a client or getting ready for a speech, running off to the bathroom prior to connecting with your audience and practicing your superhero stand will give you that little boost of confidence to ensure a successful meeting or speech.
3. Smile in a Mirror
Most people do not know that smiling can be felt through the phone. So whether you are smiling, frowning or frustrated, your demeanor can come across while you are having a conversation with someone. Have you ever answered a phone not knowing the number and you use your annoying voice to say hello? The person on the other end automatically feels like they are bothering you and the conversation can take a turn for the worse. If you add a little mirror to your desk near your phone, you will see your face and recognize when you are not smiling. And before you know it, you will turn that frown upside down.
4. Get Knowledgeable
The more knowledgeable you are, the more you feel confident on your subject matter. So read, read, read everything from articles to books, to social media posts and more to gain the knowledge you need to feel confident about the topics you need to discuss. Another way to obtain knowledge is to go back to school, or pick up a new skill or trade.
5. Surround Yourself with the Best People
The best people to surround yourself with are ones that support you and want to help you and potentially help your company grow. People can help build your confidence or they break it down with their mean spirited comments. Those that do not understand what you are trying to accomplish or are unkind may need to have limited time with you. Or may need to be removed entirely from your sphere. Surrounding yourself with people that can help you thrive automatically builds your confidence.
6. Change Your Perspective
Finally, change the way you view the world. Sometimes our experiences and environment identify and craft our perspective. Having the ability to see multiple perspectives can help us understand what others are potentially thinking. By seeing other perspectives, you can stop worrying that someone does not fully understand. Instead, try a new way to explain your position in a way that they will understand. This method of understanding and communicating allows you to try new strategies to help your business.
With each of these tips, your confidence will bloom and you will be able to lead and build a successful business. And if you run into a situation that has you confused, fake it ‘til you make it! You will have time to research the information after the conversation.
