How Your Health Impacts Productivity

March 17, 2017 by Cena Block · Leave a Comment

Your Health Can Impact Your Productivity

A motivated employee is a productive person. To keep people motivated, companies stock their human resources arsenals with all sorts of motivational tools: raises, bonuses, sales contests, peer recognition programs and gift card giveaways, for starters. These all work as external motivators for many people. But when you’re a self-employed business owner, how do you stay motivated and productive?

Research shows that when it comes to improving productivity, however, the figurative ‘carrot on a stick’ such as the examples above, just might rank below an actual carrot. And, it could also rank below spinach, kale, fresh fruit, whole grains or lean meats.

In other words, a diet and lifestyle that promotes good health and personal wellness is tied so closely to worker efficiency that 77 percent of lost productivity is attributable to health-related issues, according to a recent study.

Furthermore, self-employed business owners who did not regularly eat whole grains, fruits and vegetables were 66 percent more likely than healthy eaters to say they had experienced a decrease in productivity.

The following infographic shows how your health, wellness and lifestyle choices impact your personal productivity.
