Time management strategies are everywhere! How do you know what will work for you?
Successful business owners depend on habitual practices to ensure that vital tasks are completed daily, family routines are maintained, and business goals are achieved.
This post is Part 1 of “Successful Time Strategies for Mompreneurs”. This series outlines several strategies to help you begin reworking your business systems to work more effectively and accomplish your tasks within the time you have!
Systematize personal ‘sanity’ strategies.
One person’s sanity strategies may not be the same as another’s. But, looking deeper into the Sanity Dimensions™ of your space, your systems, your self-care habits, and the level of support you receive daily will help uncover areas in your business that may operate more efficiently if they were better systemized.
For instance, the 2 R’s of Routine and Ritual can be critical success factors when implementing health and wellness practices. Too many people make the mistake of going through the motions and ‘phoning in’ their results. In other words, just paying for a gym membership, or signing up for a fitness class, won’t work.
You have to do the work to create the change you desire.
Instead, setting a fixed time and days to work out, then committing to an accountability partner can be routine strategies that help create a ritual. When you do things like this, you systematize self-care, and you don’t have to think about it anymore. Therefore establishing a goal, then setting a way to stay accountable, builds commitment. Another benefit is that you’ll increase your motivation to show up regularly for these opportunities. This is how systematizing is a great time strategy!
Scheduling places all your tasks into like categories. Many people consider putting things on their schedule but don’t necessarily realize the advantage of doing so. When you schedule effectively, you time block your day for important tasks. When you block out time to complete tasks, you make time to focus and complete what you start. So, just as you schedule a time for grocery shopping, you must schedule a time for business development and marketing tasks. Chunk tasks into categorical functions and then block out time for completion.
Create routines for maintenance.
Creating a regular schedule for routine maintenance tasks will ensure these tasks are completed and will put less stress on business flow and family members. For the work-at-home entrepreneur, that could include tasks like office cleaning, reorganizing, taking inventory or laundry, and facilities maintenance. React, respond, and re-prioritize.
Flexibility and adaptability are learned skills that will allow you to react, respond, and reprioritize tasks and restructure workflow as details and events change. Making decisions quickly with the information available to you at the time is a critical skill that frees you from time-wasters like perfectionism, indecision, and second-guessing yourself.
It’s equally important to release the ‘I’ve always done it this way’ mindset if your current systems not working. Seek input from friends and other successful business owners. Try out proven practices and choose methods that work best in your business and family life.
Therefore, successful time management strategies require a plan and forethought. When you approach time management in this way you create time management as a conscious activity. And when you consciously commit to winning time strategies and methods, you’re well on your way to achieve the kind of success you want.
Success breeds more success. So, learning how to schedule means you’ll implement successful time management processes sooner. And as such, successfully scheduling will help you make more time for what matters. Your scheduling success will enhance your ability to create a balance between work and family life.
