Sunday Sanity: Develop Schedules and Routines

September 21, 2020 by Cena Block · 4 Comments

If people didn’t benefit from routine, there would be none.

If you are a busy entrepreneur struggling with creating and maintaining your goals, you must create a weekly schedule and planning systems to put these plans into action.

Humans form habits around reliable and repeatable tasks. And, it’s important to distinguish between tasks and scheduling.

To save time, list repeating tasks, chores and projects. Then consider “scheduling” each as a routine.

Tasks such as laundry, shopping, cleaning, dishes, and home maintenance are all regularly required to efficiently run home. Consider your weekly schedule and set a block of time to complete these tasks cyclically.

Use the technique that I use with my family… Our weekly scheduling appointment we refer to as Sunday Sanity Summit.  During our weekly scheduling meeting, we sit around the kitchen table after dinner on Sunday evenings and review everyone’s upcoming weekly schedules. We also plan out our dinner menus for the week and figure out who is going where.

This one weekly scheduling routine has made a HUGE difference for my family and in our shared sense of accountability to prioritizing family time and what is most important.

Also, now that the kids are older (teens) – we use iCal and Google Calendar to schedule reminders and recurring appointments like sports events, boy scout meetings, and weekend commitments.

How do you keep your weekly schedule organized? What planning routines, tips, ideas, and techniques do you use to keep yourself on track?

About Cena Block

Welcome readers! If this is your first time visiting my blog, thank you for stopping by. I'm Cena and I work with high performers, professionals, and entrepreneurs with ADHD. If you're an entrepreneur or high- performing professional who is distracted, overwhelmed, and feeling lost in the shuffle, let's talk. As a Certified Productivity Coach (CPC-2020) and Certified Organizer Coach (COC-2017) and Productivity Consultant, I can help. I work with clients in 3 different ways: Coach, Consultant, and Productivity. Together we help you slow down, focus and get curious. Weekly coaching sessions help you recognize when your inner critic is in your way, and provide small steps forward. ADHD brains work differently than neurotypical brains. While freedom and flexibility energize you, routines, tracking, and systems help you calm down, cut the chaos, and provide the grounding your brain needs to be at its best. Working with a Certified ADHD Coach is essential. I can help you understand how your ADHD shows up. Together we grow your business and improve your career results while finding quality time for family, your passions and yourself!
