Build better coping skills using the How to Tame ADHD Impulsivity Infographic

If you are an adult with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), you’re probably no stranger to impulsivity. In extreme cases, you might even make risky decisions about your health, safety, or relationships due to a lack of impulse control. Using the Strategies to Tame ADHD Impulsivity Infographic provides a guide to managing your behavior.

Get the coping skills you need to succeed using this Tame ADHD Impulsivity Infographic:

1. Identify Your Triggers

Identify the areas where you struggle. Physically write down the problem, then come up with a list of possible solutions. Practice taming your inner critic!

For instance:

  • Trigger: Emotionally escalating and getting angry too easily.
    • Possible Strategies To Try:
      1. Take three deep breaths before responding to the situation.
      2. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes.
      3. Understand what you’re feeling – are you really angry, or are you tired, confused, frustrated or upset?
      4. Use “I…” statements rather than “You…” statements.
      5. Take a minute and table the issue if necessary and come back to it later with a cooler head.

2. Look to the Future

Slow down decisions and consider consequences. Play ‘What If…’ and explore how it ends.

Instead of punting decisions and actions into the nebulous future – “Meh, it’s not due yet, I still have time“, say to yourself  “If I don’t do this now, what will the consequences be down the road?”

3. Develop Your Reflective Practice

Learning comes when you think about what you did and what happened. Decide from that what you would do differently next time.

If you’d like to try your own Reflective Practice, download this interactive question template and give it a try.

4. Consider Professional Help

If you’ve tried to rein yourself in with little to no success, it might be time to reach out to a professional. Learn where and why you struggle along with strategies to pause, pivot, repattern, remember, act, and succeed.

A certified ADHD coach can help you identify strategies tailored specifically to you.

Use the Strategies to Tame ADHD Impulsivity Infographic as a guide to get your impulsive nature in check.

Impulsivity can plague ADHD adults and compromise their coping skills. With practice and mindfulness, these strategies provide the coping skills needed to succeed

About Cena Block

Welcome readers! If this is your first time visiting my blog, thank you for stopping by!

I'm Cena and I work with high performers, professionals, and entrepreneurs with ADHD. If you're an entrepreneur or high- performing professional who is distracted, overwhelmed, and feeling lost in the shuffle, let's talk.

As a Certified Productivity Coach (Re-certified CPC-2026, 2023, Initial CPC-2020) and Certified Organizer Coach (COC-2017) and Productivity Consultant, I can help.
I work with clients in 3 different ways: I coach privately, I work as a consultant with your leadership team or employee staff members, and assist with customized training in areas of time, teaming, and productivity.

Coaching helps professionals with ADHD slow down, focus and get curious. Weekly sessions help you recognize when your inner critic is in your way, and provide accountability for incremental steps forward.

ADHD brains work differently than neurotypical brains. While freedom and flexibility energize you, routines, tracking, and systems help you calm down, cut the chaos, and provide the grounding your brain needs to be at its best. Working with a Certified ADHD Coach is essential. I can help you understand how your ADHD shows up. Together we grow your awareness, improve your confidence and assist you to reach results while finding quality time for family, your passions and yourself!
