As an adult living with ADHD, you’re probably no stranger to harsh criticisms, negative interactions with others, and harmful comments. So it’s no surprise that adults with ADHD often struggle with their inner critic. If you struggle with abusive ADHD self-talk, this How to Reframe Your ADHD Negative Self-Talk Infographic shares effective strategies to reframe your thoughts in a more positive light.

Use this Reframe Your ADHD Negative Thoughts Infographic to stop the negative self-talk once and for all.

How to Reframe Your ADHD Negative Self-Talk Infographic

Consider the following scenarios:

Scenario 1

You catch yourself droning on about anime for 10 minutes and realize your new friend is openly glancing at her watch.

  • Negative self-talk: “I have just droned on for 10 min. She’s going to hate me!”
  • Positive self-talk: “I went down the rabbit hole there, but if I just stop talking, it will be okay. Next time I’ll be more mindful.”

Scenario 2

You applied for a promotion at work but your colleague got it instead.

  • Negative self-talk: “I knew I wouldn’t get the job. I’m going to be stuck in this role forever.”
  • Positive self-talk: “Paul got the. job because he has more seniority. I just need to keep working hard and be patient.”

Scenario 3

Money’s tight but you bought non-refundable tickets to your favorite band coming to town at the end of the month.

  • Negative self-talk: “What is wrong with me? Now I’m going to be short on rent.”
  • Positive self-talk: “If I limit spending this month, I’ll be able to make my bills. I really need a purchase impulse strategy going forward.”

Scenario 4

Your gym membership auto-renews tomorrow, and you realize that you haven’t been at all this month.

  • Negative self-talk: “I’m just lazy, a gym membership is just a waste of money.”
  • Positive self-talk: “My health is important to me, so I’ll go twice weekly starting this week and see what happens.”

Take Back Control

It’s time to conquer the biggest bully – yourself! The less focus you give to your negative ADHD self-talk, and the more attention you pay to your positive self-talk, the easier it will become to change that bad habit.

About Cena Block

Welcome readers! If this is your first time visiting my blog, thank you for stopping by!

I'm Cena and I work with high performers, professionals, and entrepreneurs with ADHD. If you're an entrepreneur or high- performing professional who is distracted, overwhelmed, and feeling lost in the shuffle, let's talk.

As a Certified Productivity Coach (Re-certified CPC-2026, 2023, Initial CPC-2020) and Certified Organizer Coach (COC-2017) and Productivity Consultant, I can help.
I work with clients in 3 different ways: I coach privately, I work as a consultant with your leadership team or employee staff members, and assist with customized training in areas of time, teaming, and productivity.

Coaching helps professionals with ADHD slow down, focus and get curious. Weekly sessions help you recognize when your inner critic is in your way, and provide accountability for incremental steps forward.

ADHD brains work differently than neurotypical brains. While freedom and flexibility energize you, routines, tracking, and systems help you calm down, cut the chaos, and provide the grounding your brain needs to be at its best. Working with a Certified ADHD Coach is essential. I can help you understand how your ADHD shows up. Together we grow your awareness, improve your confidence and assist you to reach results while finding quality time for family, your passions and yourself!
