How Coachable Are You? Coachability Quiz

How Coachable Are You?

This quiz can help you determine your readiness for coaching. It helps identify key indicators that will help you understand how coachable you are currently.

Many factors weigh in on whether now is a good time to hire a coach. A coach-client relationship is co-created. Together we help you establish goals, and build a language around perspectives, thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors. This co-created relationship has one purpose – to help you deepen in your self-awareness and more reliably reach your goals.

Being coachable is determined by both personality factors, as well as your readiness for change, feedback, and growth. Many people consider themselves coachable, and open to coaching. But in a coaching environment, they experience breakdowns, blocks, and emotions they may not be prepared to address.

How’s Your Mindset?

Also, if you currently live within the framework of a fixed mindset, you may experience situations as stuck and immovable. You may struggle with black and white thinking, and work within a judgemental framework where things show up as right or wrong, good or bad. A fixed mindset often assumes there is only one good answer.  A fixed mindset focuses on the destination and ignores the journey. If you are set in a fixed mindset, and not willing to examine your thoughts, perspectives, and behaviors, you may not be a candidate for coaching.

On the other hand, with a growth mindset you see change as possible, consider new ideas. Additionally, you may be aware of perspectives to be examined. A growth mindset calls you to curiously approach conditions in your life. When growing, you shift from known reactions to thoughtful responses. A growth mindset creates awareness to allow you to press pause on past, non-useful patterns. Instead, we use pauses as opportunities to pivot toward new possibilities with unknown outcomes.

The good news is, a fixed mindset is not a static thing. Thoughts change. And being coachable means stepping into a growth mindset to try things on, approach ideas differently, let go of black and white thinking in place of curiosity. Coachability is often determined by your values, beliefs, and willingness to try new things. Coaching can help you try new things, remove invisible obstacles and get more out of your life.

Regardless of your current mindset and approach, this quiz will help you examine your thoughts and current perspectives. Your results will provide a litmus test to see how coachable you are now and determine what aspects may need to be examined before you are ready to dive right into working with a coach.
